I was SO excited to say hello to the blow dry brush trend that exploded on our socials last summer. Gone are the days of twisting your arm around your head three times with a HUGE hairdryer in one hand and a brush that won’t stop collecting random hairs in the other – woohoo!
So, to get the real scoop on whether these are worth the money, I got myself one to give you the low down on whether they’re worth the hype.
I got the BaByliss 2764U Flawless 38mm Hot Air Styler, but I’ve also heard very good things about the Revlon Pro Collection Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser and the Hot Tools Professional 24K Gold Charcoal Infused Blowout Styler.
I have to admit, going from someone who has NEVER been able to blow-dry my hair from home, this was a lifesaver for getting that fresh-out-the-salon look. This method of doing it is relatively easy too, with one hand spinning the bottom of the brush and the other guiding it. This is a huge difference from the multi-tasking of holding the dryer in one hand and pulling, spinning and guiding the brush with the other.
Of course, this is all depending on what brand or type of blow dry brush you’re buying but looking at different reviews online everyone seems pretty happy with their new purchases!
However, there are some downsides to the blow dry brush. You definitely don’t get anywhere near as much volume with this tool as you normally would with a regular brush and blow dry. It still looks great, but don’t expect it to look exactly like your hairdresser’s work (you don’t have a regular blow dry babe? We’ve got hundreds on The Shortlyst waiting for you!)
I think the simplicity tricked me into thinking this would take five minutes, but the quickest I’ve done it in the month I’ve had it has been about 25 minutes – which is still quicker than a regular blow dry! So don’t be tricked into thinking this is a timesaver as well as an energy saver. It also took a while for me to work out the right technique for me.
But once I got it down, I haven’t looked back since! I think this is a really great tool to re-create that salon blow dry (albeit slightly less volumized) for those like me who need a quick fix and get tired arms from trying to hold a hairdryer, a brush, parts of my hair and my arms up for too long.
